9Entering the school premises
Our main reception is for parents and visitors only. Students should only use the main entrance if they are signing in or out once the school day has commenced. Students must use the student entrances.
9Leaving during the school day
If a student needs to leave during the school day for an appointment etc. they need to bring with them proof of this appointment (e.g. appointment letter/card as well as a note from a parent or guardian in the student planner.) Students must report to the school office and then sign out in reception. If returning the same day, they must report again to reception and sign in. Where possible, medical and dental appointments should be made outside of school hours.
9Punctuality and absence
Please be aware of the following information:
All absences must be authorised by parents/carers.
If no reason is given for morning absence, parents/carers will be sent a text message.
Overall attendance will be closely monitored by the Attendance Officer. If your child’s attendance falls below our expectations you will be contacted.
9Homework
Homework at North Huddersfield Trust School is designed to give students the opportunity to reflect upon, and understand in more depth, the ideas already studied within lesson. By basing homework upon prior learning, students and parents can be confident that the time invested in homework is a vital part of all learners reaching their full potential.
Students will receive feedback on their homework and completion of homework tasks will receive a ‘positive’ on Class Charts. As all homework is set through Class Charts, parents are able to access all of the tasks and also to monitor completion.
9Personal property and valuables
Students are strongly advised not to bring valuables into school. Mobile phones and electronic devices should not be used inside the school building and are not covered by the school’s insurance. Teachers have the right to confiscate these if seen. Please see the Behaviour Policy for further information.
If students do have to bring valuables to school, they do so at their own risk. Any lost property should be handed into school. Students must follow security procedures during PE lessons. Parents should refer to their child’s planner for further information about acceptable use and consequences/sanctions for inappropriate use of such devices.
9Student support
If students feel they need support or someone to talk to, we have our in-school listening service. The listening service is a safe environment and is available to all our students if required.
Students have the option to self-refer by completing a self-referral form.
Any adult in school would also be happy to listen to a student, should they need help.
9Student welfare
Students need to be aware of the following procedures in the event of injury or illness:
- If ill or injured, students must inform a member of staff who will arrange for the appropriate action to be taken. Form tutors will ensure all students understand the procedure to follow
- School has first aiders available but any serious illness or injury will be referred to an external medical professional
- If necessary, students will be sent home
- Students must not just sign themselves out or phone home themselves
- School will store inhalers or medicines if necessary
